Americana Fiddler & Entertainer Emerald Butler Releases New Song

“You’ve Got Nothing Over Me” From Sun Studio Sessions, Out April 24, 2026

Chattanooga, TN - Accomplished Americana Fiddler and Singer-Songwriter, Emerald Butler, announces the release of her original song, “You’ve Got Nothing Over Me,” from her new EP, “Emerald Butler Sun Studio Sessions,” recorded at the legendary Sun Studios in Memphis, TN. The independently released single will be available April 24, 2026 on all streaming services.

Recorded at the legendary Sun Studios in Memphis, TN, with musicians who had never performed together before - C.W. Hasty, Jade Watts, Joel Beaver, and Rodney Polk - the session finds Emerald recording like Sam Phillips did with his earliest artists. With the studio’s founder and legendary producer’s motto called “perfect imperfection”.

“I’m calling people out in this song,” admits Butler. “I wrote ‘You’ve Got Nothing Over Me’ when I was a teenager, processing through some bullying I experienced. While other girls were making goo-goo eyes at Justin Bieber, watching High School Musical, and following the fashion trends, I was discovering Jerry Lee Lewis, watching Walk The Line, and wearing pearl snap shirts and cowboy boots.”

“You’ve Got Nothing Over Me” showcases Emerald’s confidence in her individuality with straightforward sarcasm. “Someone once called it my anti-social song. I’m not antisocial; I just want to be social with people who accept me for who I am, no matter what I like or how I dress. Elvis is a great example of this. People thought Elvis was strange for wearing the kind of clothes he wore and for singing music that was frowned upon for various discriminatory reasons. A lot of that music was recorded at Sun.

The founder of Sun Studios, Sam Phillips, created this space for all kinds of people to tell their story. Sam believed that if you had something important that you wanted to say, then you should say it. I believe that this song fits that idea.”

The first note of “You’ve Got Nothing Over Me” transports listeners back in time with the legendary ‘slap back’ sound (a term Phillips used to describe his innovative studio delay effect).

A Sonny Burgess-style lead guitar plows through with Emerald’s droning fiddle and rhythm guitar ringing in. There’s no room for doubt about the songs' rockabilly roots.

“Emerald Butler Sun Sun Sessions” will continue with two more singles releasing over the next few months. Along with the new release, Emerald has been writing and producing a new history podcast titled “Site of Sound,” which features musical landmarks, including Sun Studios. More details will be announced soon.

YOU’VE GOT NOTHING OVER ME

V1

I may not look the way you do

I’m not walking in your shoes

I may not wear the clothes you wear

But you know what I don’t really care

CHORUS

‘Cause you’ve got nothing over me

There aint nothing these two eyes can’t see

You’ve got nothing over little old me

So please go and leave me be

V2

I may not like the things you like

Well that don’t keep me up at night

I’m not you. Thank the Lord

‘Cause if I was I’d sure be bored

(no offense)

CHORUS

You’ve just got nothing over me

There aint nothing these two eyes can’t see

You’ve got nothing over little old me

So please go and leave me be

V3

You may have other friends more cool

Well they just fit right into your rules

But not me. I’m outcast

Even so I’m still having a blast

CHORUS

‘Cause you’ve got nothing over me

There aint nothing these two eyes can’t see

You’ve got nothing over little old me

So please go and leave me be

V4

So tell your aunt and your preacher too

When they’ve got nothing else to do

One little thing that will set them free

Is not to talk about little old me

CHORUS

‘Cause you’ve got nothing over me

There aint nothing these two eyes can’t see

You’ve got nothing over little old me

So please go and leave me be

‘Cause you know you’re barking up

the wrong tree
